Dr. Nagra and Dr. Wasik are general dentists, not cosmetic dentist specialists. Cosmetic dentistry is not a term/specialty recognized by the Alberta Dental Association & College (ADA&C). Dr. Nagra and Dr. Wasik provide cosmetic dental procedures such as porcelain veneers, dental implant crowns, dental bonding, and teeth whitening as part of their general dentist license.

As general dentists, Dr. Nagra and Dr. Wasik do not place dental implants, but rather restore them with crowns or implant bridges. For placement of dental implants, Ambiance Dental refers patients to surgical / periodontal specialists that we closely cooperates with.

What are Dental Implants?

If you’ve had a tooth extracted or have several missing teeth, you may be able to restore your smile permanently with dental implants! They can help you speak and smile with confidence again.

Advantages of Dental Implants

Other treatments for missing teeth only work above your gum line, like dentures or dental bridges. Dental implants, however, are small titanium cylinders that are actually inserted into the jaw bone to replace the roots of missing teeth. We then permanently attach a new dental crown on top of your implant.

The new tooth looks, feels, and works very similarly to the rest of your natural teeth. Dental implants are more natural looking and better for chewing than removable alternatives. And replacing a tooth with a dental implant doesn’t require any preparation of your adjacent healthy teeth, as is required for anchoring a dental bridge.

How do dental implants work?

Before treatment, it is important that Dr. Nagra or Dr. Wasik go through a full examination with you and discuss your options and the treatment in detail.

A dental implant is made from titanium, a biocompatible material that essentially fuses with your jaw bone after the implant is placed. This process (osseointegration) takes several months to complete, but a temporary tooth replacement can be placed during the healing period.

The unique characteristics of the fusing process give dental implants their long term stability. Once it is complete, a permanent dental crown is placed and the treatment is finished.

A night guard will often be recommended to protect your implant crown, and to ensure its longevity you will need to maintain regular hygiene visits and practice good dental hygiene at home.
